Trust

The first thing that goes when we are hurt in a relationship is trust. But if it takes time to build trust, it takes even more time to rebuild trust. I Corinthians 13:7 says, “Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” It never gives up. In verse 4, it says, “love is patient”. So if you want to give up, and if you can’t be patient, maybe your problem is a lack of love. Perhaps you have confused need with love. It is true that we all basically love because we need to be loved, but as God pours out his love in our hearts, He transforms us and a little of his “otherly” love—what the Bible calls Agape love—gets placed in our hearts. You might need more of his love in you.
And maybe along the freeway of life you have begun to lose you trust in God. Psalm 145:13 says, “The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.” Perhaps you don’t think He is loving toward all he has made. Life can be very difficult. God will allow hard things to come your way in order to share in His holiness. But if you’ve gotten hardened by life’s toughness and you don’t trust God anymore; you need to start with repentance; that is, take God at his word. Believe what He says about Himself. There are people in the Bible who suffered more than you and still continued to trust God and praise his lovingkindness. This may seem like a harsh thing to you, but is about faith. God is not defined by our circumstances. He defines Himself in Scripture. He is worthy of our trust.
